    Ultralight Tank!

The Echo 2 system was my first major purchase from HMG and I wasn’t disappointed! I’m still blown away at the amazing attention to detail and quality of the build. I will be using my new shelter all summer as I section hike the southern portion of the AT and am confident my Echo 2 will keep me protected from the elements. Well worth every penny that I spent on it.

    Great hideaway from the bugs

I've coupled this with my well used RAB 8'x10' tarp. Fits as though they were already designed for escort.

It's a little short that prevents you from being able to sit up completely, which was expected with an UL tent insert. I could imagine the design could be tweaked slightly to have just the head of the insert elevated.

Otherwise, very well designed piece of equipment, certainly light, but does take up slightly more space than I anticipated, it will remain a crucial piece for shoulder season backpacking, but probably won't make the cut for bikepacking due to the space it takes up.

    Perfect for my flat tato.

It's a solidly constructed insert with lots of space. Very easy to set up too. Love it.

Nice shelter with one minor annoyance

Initial unpacking review: I am accumulating quite a bit of HMG gear and really like all of it. The Echo II insert is no exception. I have not used it yet but laying it out and looking over the quality and craftsmanship, I am very pleased. The seems between the side DCF8 panels and the floor DCF11 seem very well done. The back panel is DCF8 and seems like it will protect the back quite well. I plan to use this as a single shelter so I am not as worried about the side condensation as mentioned in another review. I'll try to comment on this issue after use.

My minor annoyance is the size of the stuff sack that it came in. All the other stuff sacks from HMG have been very generous in size. No issue with storing used equipment back in their bags. The exception is the one that came with the Echo II insert. It was tight when folded neatly right from the box. I tried several different ways to get the shelter back in the stuff sack but it wasn't even close. Nice stuff sack but too little. At these price points, bumping up the size by two would be a much better sell. I am using HMGs 4400 pod system and it fit in there with no issues. I can use the stuff sack for other things but other buyers should be aware. I bought this insert to use with my new HMG flat tarp so I'm not sure if this is an issue with it not being used with the whole Echo II system or not.

I'll try to update more with actual use.

    Echo II Insert

Using an Echo II insert paired with the large flat tarp. Awesome Combo! Keeps bugs/water out and facilitates some very cool pitching configurations.
