UNBOUND THRU AND THRU
Become UNBOUND to go bigger for longer! The UNBOUND 55 expands your capacity for more adventurous trips by adding extra volume to accommodate seasonal clothing and gear changes, or more food and water when resupply points are fewer or farther in-between. There is simply no better way to measure the effectiveness of a pack design than to send it out on thru hikes. Over the course of 2,000+ miles and an average of five to six months, day in, day out, loaded and unloaded, jostled and dragged, and exposed to the elements, one of these long walks is going to tell you the truth. So, that’s what we went after, and the Unbound 55 is the honest to goodness result. Every carefully considered feature fought for its right to remain, leaving only the essentials required for an efficient, comfortable, adaptable, and dependable travel companion. Thru hiking is hard enough. Let the Unbound 55 carry some of the weight.

Product Reviews and Questions
UNBOUND55 can be carried comfortably
I only use extreme UL backpacks that I carry only on my shoulders when the load is less than 5kg.
In the first place, if I need to carry luggage that weighs more than 15 kg, I use a traditional type backpack that can firmly support the waist load.
Even so, when I carry around 10kg of luggage, I want to reduce the weight as much as possible, so I use a UL backpack, which weighs less than 1kg and has a built-in frame that can support the waist load. Therefore, I am currently using WINDRIDER2400.
I recently purchased the UNBOUND55, which has a slightly larger capacity to carry bulky items. I was a little worried because it only has one built-in aluminum frame to save weight, but when I tried it with over 10 kg of luggage in it, I found that my shoulders hurt even if I carried it all day. I was able to confirm that I could carry it without any problems.
Naturally, I took the frame out and adjusted it to fit my back, bending it to fit snugly, just as many traditional backpacks do in the past.
I use size M, but the middle value of the back length of the pack is the size of your own back length, so when you place the hipbelt along the hipbone, the height of the shoulder belt and the shoulder are the same. They are almost the same, so when you tighten the shoulder strap, the back of UNBOUND55 can be carried tightly from the shoulder to the waist without any gaps.
It has the functions of a standard UL backpack, so I have high hopes that it will be useful in the future.
Unbound 55 Awesome!
I am loving my Unbound 55. Extremely light, strong, comfortable, and simple. But almost perfect backpack. My only wishes would to have had 2 support rods in the back or some kind of suspending mesh to allow you back to breath more. But that adds weight. And I would love to have load lifter straps.

Walked the AT last year and wanted a Hyperlight rucksack
Now I have the perfect size for future thru hikes
I love this!
So, I'm not a thru-hiker... yet. But, I've been hiking over 20 years with mainly Osprey bags (which I still love). However, I just got my feet wet with the more UL gear that's out there, this pack being one of them. And this Unbound 55 carries all the gear very comfortably! Surprisingly comfortable! All the straps are narrower than what I'm used to, but still feels great! I'm starting the Long Trail soon to prep for my AT thru next spring. And this is the bag of choice. I've now put 20 miles on this bags since I got it a couple days ago. I have no doubts on this bag carrying my gear for my upcoming long distance hikes! Nice work HMG!
Unbound in the 100 mile wilderness, Maine
Pack held up through rain for 8 days heavy rain with no issues. The front pockets around the waist belt aren’t water resistant. Overall the pack is awesome… obviously light wait but also ran into no issues carrying 8 days of food and gear (roughly 20-25 lbs) through remote wilderness and had no issues with straps, buckles etc. the frameless design is awesome. Would definitely recommend for any thru hiking.
