Product Reviews and Questions
New best friend.
I love this pack! I recently used it on a thru hike of the CDT and it was everything I wanted in a pack. Light, yet strong and can carry some weight. Compact, good for a low base weight kit. Great side pockets, easy to reach and big enough to though stuff in. Great water protection, gear was always dry. Food/trash pocket is great for eating while you move. I usually use a frameless bag and this was a nice change. Was great for the longer hauls of food and water.
Grabbed immediately after it came out…no regrets!!
As an owner of the Southwest, saw this version and snatched it up immediately after it came out. 40L is a bit small (or so I thought) for my needs in winter but it really works well because of its unique features. Same carry as my other pack. Love love love that back pocket material. The double layer allows me to put some smaller items in the lower section and other things at the top - with both having easy access. Example - water filter plus alpaca hoodie. Bottom stash pocket is awesome for trash - or my rain gear if wet. The multiple lashing points make securing my neck knife, satellite receiver, or head lamp easier - I like to clip or loop them to a secure spot then tuck in a pocket for storage. That keeps them secure but easily located in the dark.
I bought the 55L of this pack when it came out but truthfully haven’t used it yet. Just returned from another trip and my bag held my gear without issue - packed several days of food, sleep gear going down to 20F (hammock camping so under AND top quilts), plus normsl stuff.
Great pack!!
Has everything that a thruhiker wants. My only qualm is that it doesn't have an ice axe loop. However, there are lashing points for you to fashion one yourself if you choose.
awesome pack
To me, the pack rides perfect especially around 25lbs. i like the extra thick stretch dyneema back pocket as well as the large side pockets. I am 66 years old and appreciate the light weight and comfort
Perfect
I purchased the Unbound 40 after trying and returning comparable packs of two other ultralight makers, including one that was supposed to be made for women. The Unbound 40 fits so much better -- I can actually load it up with about 25# and carry it comfortably. At first I was concerned about the lack of lifters but UL is right -- you don't actually need them on a pack this light. Particularly like the great waist belt that can be adjusted to cantilever on our curved hips. I am a 5'4", 100# woman and no one seems to be making UL packs that fit our small frames and shape except HL. Highly recommend even though it does not say specifically made for women. Thanks!
