Our preferred pack for backpacking in open, wet and wooded trails.
OUR ORIGINAL BACKPACKING PACK

The 3400 Windrider has made a name for itself as the ideal Appalachian Trail thru hiking pack with its massive mesh pockets that help to dry wet gear on the move, and its adaptable carrying capacity as supplies accumulate and dwindle along the route. Ideal for weekend, section, or thru hikes where resupply points are less frequent and/or for equipment flexibility. When the extra volume is not in use, the 3400’s top can roll down enough to make the overall size of the pack similar to the 2400, but that additional space can come in pretty handy when you need it.

Perfect pack. I bought because of back injury to lighten total weight. Carried it 2 and love it so far. Cant wait til spring 2023 rolls around to hit the Appalachian trail and continue my hour entry. Just under 2000 miles to go!!!

    Nearly perfect

Recently came from another manufacturers UL pack which was outstanding and only complaint was its complicated adjustment setup and some fragile frame pieces. Although none broke I was concerned about its longevity. Cue HMG... Just tried it out with about 28 lbs of gear and a 30 mile hike in rough terrain and I must say, the wind rider 3400 performed amazingly. Took a little bit to get used to the minimal feel of the shoulder straps and finding the way it seems to be most comfortable hanging off the body but all in all very pleased with my pack. I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase and look forward to continued use. Purchased a medium/black 3400 windrider and it was the right size for my 5'8 180 lb self. Thanks guys! Only recommendation would be slightly wider/padded shoulder straps

The 3400 Windrider - My best pal in the Wilderness

I've only gotten to take this backpack out on a few trips. But I've come to really love it! At first the fit was a little bit tricky, but once I figured it out, It's worked quite well! I really enjoy the roll-top closure system as well, and REALLY enjoy not having to fidget with a pack brain anymore. I've only used it in wet environments, so the mesh on the front has come to be really useful for drying my socks out when the dew attacks! It's super lightweight, but you already knew that. It's quickly become my favorite pack. When I do a Thru Hike, I'll definitely be reaching for my Windrider!

    Dix Range - 9/17 to 9/19

I started using an internal frame pack in 2007. I purchased this pack in August 2021 to use for light weight adventuring at Macomb, South Dix, Grace, Hough and Dix. I used it on a couple of training hikes, i.e., I carried my 3L reservoir, some socks, rain gear and lunch to do a 7-mile hike around Hammonasset Lake when it was 100 degrees. Light weight, no problem.

For the Dix Range trip I packed the following: MSR stove, fuel canister, pot, mug, spoon, twig stove, tarp, stakes, sleeping bag, ground tarp, sleeping pad, 12' of 550 cord, Bic, compass, map, first aid kit, solar battery/charger with cords, 3L reservoir, 2-1L canteens, Katadyn water filtration, multi-tool, headlamp, reading glasses (yep, I'm that old), wool beanie, Tilley, 2-trail shirts, 1-pant, 1-short, 3 pairs wool socks, down jacket, gloves, rain gear, sundries, 2-freeze dried meals, trail mix, camera, and hiking poles. I used 1 large pod for wearables and a stuff sack for the rest. The pack had room to spare. Easy adjustments with three cinch straps and extra straps and buckles if I wanted to lash anything to exterior of pack, e.g., snow shoes, poles, etc. The mesh pouches attached to outside of pack are the best feature of this pack.

I parked at Elk Lake. Hiked 2.3 miles with full pack. I experienced a little fatigue in my neck and shoulders, which didn't surprise me due to the fact that this pack does not have an internal or external frame. I recognized this at the outset and carefully packed my…
