2400 usability
Very light and easy to carry, I made a good purchase
Astonishingly simple
Simplicity is always a good thing and my Southwest 2400 is as simple as they come, I love it. By some sort of magic it fits me much better than my other expensive pack which has a plethora of straps, zippers, load lifters, compartments and buckles and is “fully adjustable”, ha! Thus far I have only used my Southwest on short desert 6-8 mile overnight trips carrying a 20-25 pound load, once I had to haul close to 38 pounds and the Southwest performed perfectly every time. It’s an expensive pack but I think it’s well worth the price if you backpack a lot. Besides, you get what you pay for - this is an extremely well designed and built pack that can comfortably swallow and carry a surprising amount of gear. On the shoulder straps I have the HMG bottle pocket which is excellent for a 700 ml bottle and the HMG shoulder pocket. The shoulder pocket’s outer mesh sleeve is barely wide enough to hold my smaller iPhone 13 which is 2-6/8” or 6.8 cm wide with a thin silicone cover on it. I have a suggestion for HMG. The shoulder strap daisy chains would be much more practical and versatile if the individual ladder sections were shorter, thus providing more options on where to mount the pockets or other gear. I am very satisfied with my Southwest 2400 and should have invested in it some years ago, but better late than never.
