Love the ice pack.
Took it to Ecuador and it was perfect for rock climbing and going up Illiniza. More comfortable the. I was expecting and seemed bigger also.
brilliant
everything i needed, nothing i didn't. shockingly comfortable
Elegant and Functional
The Pack is streamlined. The pack is elegant. It's not bullshit. 2 things I struggle with: 1- the padded hip belt. You just don't need one on a pack this small. A simple web belt would be perfect. 2- no organizer pocket. I like the crampon bungee. No pocket is needed. I would like a simle and clean pocket to store a map, lip balm, and the car keys.
One epic pack.
After using this pack on a couple trips now, it has replaced 6 other packs I've used for winter ascents. The medium was a perfect fit for me being 6'. Has all the features I want with plenty of room for extended day hikes. Descending some class 3+ rock and ice, the bottom of the pack got fairly roughed up but did not tear. Fully loaded with all my winter gear, my shoulders and hips feel great even after 12-18 miles of hiking.
I think my only issue is the velcro used for the roll top closure. The velcro is already starting to fray and if you are using fleece liner gloves they will snag when you open it. Fleece mid layer jackets also catch on velcro when reaching into the pack. This isn't a deal breaker for me nor do I think worth knocking a star off. But something I hope HMG considers changing in the future. Velcro and mountaineering just do not mix well. 100$ fleece mid layers and wool base layers are just destroyed by velcro. But that's just been my experience with it.
I love this pack! And will be buying the Summit Pack for summer climbs!
DON'T, leave home without it!!
This pack is great. I use it for summer climbing and winter climbing, skiing and international travel. It is my favorite pack --- I have a variety to choose from at work in the National Parks, and I choose Hyperlite.
