OUR CLOSE QUARTERS TRAIL PACK

On rugged and tight trails, the 3400 Southwest is a flexible performer that can adapt and handle the way gear volumes change for weekend, section, or thru hikes. Ideal when resupply points are less frequent and/or for equipment flexibility is needed. When the extra volume is not in use, the 3400’s top can roll down enough to make the overall size of the pack similar to the 2400, but that additional space can come in pretty handy when you need it.

When the route is thick with vegetation, requires the occasional up and over immovable objects, and calls for “suck in your gut and shimmy through” type moves, the Southwest is the backpack you want up-close and personal. This pack family is made specifically for tough adventures that would rip most other ultralight-style packs to shreds.

My favorite pack

I have always wanted an HMG pack. Now I've got one! I'm an avid winter and summer hiker/camper in the northeast and will be using my new Southwest 3400 for everything but ice climbing.

Great pack!

I have a couple herniated disks in my spine and have been working hard to get back into the woods backpacking with my son. I have had a pack for 20 years. It was so uncomfortable and noisy( sounded like I was carrying a pack full of squeaking mice), I decided that this would be an excellent time to upgrade. I spend plenty of time in the woods and knew I would be using my pack quite often so the money would be well spent.

Bottom line this pack is so comfortable and there is no noise! I can walk through the woods and hear only my footsteps. So pleasant!! All the straps stay tight and the stitches are TIGHT. I am super picky on quality and this thing is MADE TOUGH!

Hands down awesome pack worth the investment.

I have enough confidence with Hyperlite's products that I purchased my son his own pack. I know it's going to last him a very long time and reliably carry his gear for many miles.

Happy Trails!

Sooo Good, Had to Buy My Own

A buddy let me borrow his Hyperlite Southwest 3400 not once but twice for multi-day hikes in which it excelled in providing a wonderful experience in every way expected for an ultra-light pack (weight / fit / organization / durability). In fact it was so good I jumped with both feet into buying my own!

One tough backpack

I’m hiking the Long Trail with this back pack. I have taken a few spills on slippery boulders here and each time the backpack took the brunt of the fall. This is one tough backpack that is light and can take a beating and keep on trekking.

I also love the roll down top that gives me flexibility to carry less than a full load and still have a compact back pack. It’s also comfortable after a long day of hiking. Overall a well designed backpack.
