Not sold

This pole doesn't feel as solid and sturdy as I'd expect, and it's heavier than one of my traditional hiking poles. Thought I might bring this on longer expeditions as a backup to my hiking poles but not sure it would make the kit list to be honest. There's nothing wrong with it other than it wobbles around when extended and although some give is expected for strong winds, it doesn't look or feel as strong as my strapped hiking poles which make the ultamid more taught and slightly easier to adjust in cold icy weather rather than the very stiff button release method on this.

Solid

I had my trekking poles break in the wind and punch a hole in my mid 4 (with two stoves blasting and my wife inside). Since then, I use a dedicated center pole like this one. I would trust a kayak paddle, but not the trekking pole solution.

Tough and Lightweight

This is a very well made and lightweight tent pole for my Ultimid 2. I didn’t have total trust in the trekking pole method and this gives 100% confidence in stability.

Perfect for my UltaMid!

It’s nice having a dedicated pole for my UltaMid, especially if I don’t feel like bringing trekking poles. This pole is very well made, as is all of Hyperlite’s gear. I also like the fact that it’s adjustable. Well done!
