Stuff sack a fantastic addition to the Porter 3400.
I've used the Porter w/o the stuff pocket but, maybe because this is my first 'brainless' pack, I miss the convenience of easy access to random items I may need through the day. The stuff sack is the perfect solution. Not only is it great for stashing gloves, hat, rain gear and another layer, but its large enough to also carry wet things away from the interior of the pack. There are still times I carry the Porter w/o the stuff pocket, but anytime weather conditions are sketchy or when I need the added capacity, it adds a great deal of versatility. For my purposes it is absolutely worth the 5 oz. it adds to my pack weight!
Ample space and easy access
I found this pocket to be really useful for holding my bottles of stove alcohol (glad to keep that stinky stuff out of my pack!), water filter, poo kit, and rain gear. It also comes in handy for stashing clothing layers when on the move. Super simple and super functional.
Need to add a way to attach/tack down (top center) back of the stuff pocket to the pack.
On my first trip with the pack I made the mistake of stuffing gear instead of inside the stuff pocket but UNDER the pocket. Luckily, what I put under there was soft and bulky and it never slipped out the bottom. Because I am too dumb (especially when exhausted) not to do it again, I sewed a velcro loop to the top of the stuff pocket that wraps around the pack's attachment point under the the top of the pocket. Note that my stuff pocket is mounted on my pack (Porter 5400), one "attachment ladder step" up from the bottom instead of at the bottom like the pictures on the website, so the center attachment point is right under the top of the pocket. With my modification, I am very happy with my stuff pocket.
Stuff pocket
It is handy for sure but I wish it was like the outer pocket that is used for the southwest pack.
Love it
I’m so happy that I bought the porter stuff pocket -you can fit so much in it, and saves the need to keep on opening up the pack to get necessities throughout the day.
I found that along with my first aid kit, food, jacket, and extra water bottles-it held my 4-piece paddle securely, and there was space for more gear.
