OUR MOST VERSATILE, LONG TRAIL PACK

The versatile 3400 Junction allows you to keep your options open when it comes to packing for a big weekend, multi-day section hikes, thru hikes, or to meet the gear demands of changing seasons and environments. Ideal when resupply points are less frequent and/or for equipment flexibility is needed. When the extra volume is not in use, the 3400’s top can roll down enough to make the overall size of the pack similar to the 2400, but that additional space can come in pretty handy when you need it.

For hikes measured more by changes in climate zones and geographical features than distance, the Junction offers the ultimate versatility required to meet those demands.

Best Pack I’ve Ever Used
I primarily operate in the south east, which rains a lot, this pack has kept my gear bone dry. Love the simplicity and rides more comfortably than any of my larger packs.

So Happy
Delivery box felt like it was empty. Just putting it on, you know you’ll be flying over terrain. Inaugural hike was 20 miles long and much of that through snow, so happy to have a sweet new toy.

Went from another pack to Hyperlite Junction. It's perfect for my C.T. thru hike in 2022. I'm 6'2 and got the tall, fits like a glove. I'm so happy I made the switch, I wish I had it on the A.T. Thanks Again Hyperlite!!

Perfect for the purpose I intended. A very lightweight pack and gear to help with aging knees. Looking forward to using this for many more years.

Used for 400 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2022

I used this backpack for approximately 400 miles on the PCT this year. I love everything about this pack EXCEPT the shoulder straps. I thought maybe I was nuts or it was just me but after talking with dozens of other thru hikers with the same issue I know I am not alone in this criticism of the shoulder straps. They hurt significantly more than any other pack I wore this year. I had to switch to my REI Flash 45 and ended up purchasing an Atom Packs Atom + for the end of the trail. I wish the straps were wider, more cushioned and available in 'S' as well as 'J' style. I also wish I had ordered this pack a torso size smaller to get it off the top of my hips which is a personal preference. The chest strap needed more adjustability. My chest is a size 44 and I had to use the strap at its widest adjustment to accomidate my chest size which is not very large IMO. I'm hoping Hyperlite can sew on some 'S' straps for me and offer a wider chest strap. I vlogged my trip and will be reviewing this backpack and am hoping to add that Hyperlite is flexible enough to let me sew on new straps and chest strap...the ball is in your court Hyperlite. I am finishing the trail next year and hope to use this backpack again with some modification I would gladly pay for.

Pretty happy, would love a few changes

First off, I loved the look, simplicity and weight of this brand of packs. It was expensive so I did a lot of research before settling on this one. I took it out on the Timberline Trail around Mount Hood this past week and will give feedback on how it performed there.

Pros: easy to fit all my gear and food for 4 days on the trail. I used HMG stuff sacks and pods so organization was on point. Side Pockets fit two water bottles, my tent stakes and a lightweight chair. Mesh pocket held toiletry kit, Chacos for water crossings and my rain gear. Phone fit well in the hip pocket with chapstick and first aid kit on one side and day snacks in the other.

My pack was 27 pounds and it carried that amount well. I got black even though I really wanted white but I knew the white pack would show so much dirt on the bottom and it would drive me nuts;)

Cons: I’m petite (5’1 and 112#) and the straps really dug into my traps and shoulders. It became painful over the course of the trip almost to an annoying level. A little more padding there would be nice but I realize that would add to the weight. Maybe this is normal or doesn’t impact those with broader shoulders or more body fat there.

I wish the white pack had a black bottom because then it wouldn’t get so dirty looking when it’s on the ground at camp. I understand dirt is part of the deal but a girl can dream! If it had this feature I’d have bought it in white for sure since it’s lighter and brighter! It’s the only reason I went…

Let down… not waterproof.

The pack is definitely not waterproof, I have to use a trash bag as a liner inside, as do all the other AT hikers. Also, the Hip pockets are not dynema, which is just an absolutely horrible design flaw… so I’m disappointed and feel like I wasted my money. But, at least it’s a comfortable pack to wear.

Good, bad, and ugly

I’ve had it out on a long trail for about 10 days now; here are my initial thoughts. I love the weight of the pack and the roll top design, which allows for adjustment due to changing food volume after reapplies. It carries 30 lbs very nicely. I also love the mesh pocket for stashing a damp shirt, etc and helping dry such items more quickly. The mesh pocket also works well for snacks, etc and provides convenient attachment points for things like a towel, a trowel, or a solar panel. Another great feature is the hip belt pockets-roomy and appropriately sized and positioned. It’s a high quality product. As for the”bad”, I added a shoulder strap pouch which was really essential for my use. Some sort of small pouch or compartment integral to the pack would be an improvement. As for the “ugly”, I’ve found just one, but it’s a significant one. Because of the waterproof dyneema fabric which rests directly against the wearer’s back, sweat accumulates, soaking my tshirt and shorts over the course of a day or a hot climb. Some sort of interface there would be a huge improvement.
