The Southwest

OUR "CLOSE QUARTERS" TRAIL PACK

When the route is thick with vegetation, requires the occasional up and over immovable objects, and calls for “suck in your gut and shimmy through” type moves, the Southwest is the backpack you want up-close and personal. This pack family is made specifically for tough adventures that would rip most other ultralight-style packs to shreds.

Solid & Secure

Three easily accessible external pockets to store and protect your gear.

Durable Abrasion Protection

External Hardline with Dyneema® side pockets keep your gear protected and free from any unwanted snags or abrasion.

WATERPROOF MATERIALS

Pair with our Stuff Sacks for a buttoned up, nearly waterproof kit.

Roll-Top closure system

Three external, Hardline with Dyneema® pockets for security and abrasion resistance

Four exterior triglide buckles for optional pack accessory straps

Hardline with Dyneema® dual-density hip belt with 1/8" closed cell rigid foam, 1/4" closed cell foam and spacer mesh, and gear loops or zippered pockets

This is it! This is exactly what you want/need for any overnight or day hikes. I love not needing to cover my bag either considering it’s DCF composition - though I prefer to go when I know it’s not raining so the waterproofness of DCF is more of a just in case. If you can, have someone else measure you because it’s easier, and make sure you measure before you buy! The back brace is wonderful too - Took the bad boy for a quick 13 miles during the day and I wish I had time for more! I would gladly splurge on a larger bag for some longer adventures in the future.

This pack is so comfortable! I LOVE it! It has basic features for storage that make it uber practical (i.e. you won't be overwhelmed with a million extra unnecessary straps, etc.) The velcro/clip top closure in a fantastic design that allows you to very easily access things as well as expand/condense the pack as needed. Highly recommend.

I've been using my 2400 Southwest for non trail stuff (ie commuting to work by bike in wet conditions) and have loved the versatility of this pack. I know it's not built for commute, however the ability to cinch it down or expand it along with how light it is has made it my new favorite. My laptop fits in the bladder compartment and I stash extra layers in the outer compartment for ease. Thank you for such a sturdy and well-built pack.

I have been backpacking for 30 years and this is by far the best pack I've ever owned! Strong, light and waterproof. I got the pack a couple of weeks ago and have already used it for multi-day backpacking adventures, day hikes, and as a travel pack. In the past I crewed sailboats that raced with spectra sails. I always wondered why no one made backpacks out of this incredible material. Well HMG does and they have now cornered the market on the worlds best packs!

The 4400 Southwest pack was suggested to me by someone who has completed the triple crown. His recommendation was dead on! This is an exceptional pack, as it is ultralight, extremely well made and with every detail thought through. I have used it now on two multi-night hikes and have found it to be very comfortable with convenient access to most of my gear. Other then I added some 2mm elastic cordage w/ a slide to the 4 buckles on the pack to store a Z-Seat pad, which just makes accessing the pad that much easier, I cannot suggest anything more. Like I said, it is exceptionally well designed. In spite of its light weight, I have no reservations about its durability or ability to perform. All-in-all, I highly recommend this pack to anyone doing multi day hikes or thru hiking.
