Jack 'Quadzilla' Jones

The Man. the myth. the quad-legend.

Jack Jones or "Quadzilla" is hiking the Calendar Year Triple Crown, the three longest national scenic trails (AT, PCT, and CDT) in the United States, all in a single calendar year. So far, he has completed the Appalachian Trail up to Baxter State Park in 94 days, and he will need to come back to summit Mt Katahdin when it opens for the summer season. Next, he will hike the PCT northbound and the CDT southbound. Quadzilla previously hiked the AT in 2016, CDT in 2018, and parts of the PCT and the CT in 2021.

TRIPLE CROWN FOR A CAUSE

Quadzilla is a former US Army Infantryman and has worked as a wildland firefighter on the Sawtooth Hotshots. As part of his hike, he is raising funds and awareness for wildland firefighters. The work is backbreaking labor and extremely dangerous, and it benefits all of us by protecting our beautiful public lands. Our firefighters deserve to be compensated fairly for the high levels of risk and the arduous nature of the job.

Appalachian trail packing list

Eight thousand miles of hiking following the routes of the iconic Big Three – the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail. By mid-May, he'd already done most of the A.T. (Baxter State Park was still closed when he reached it, so he'll come back to Maine for the grand finale on Mount Katahdin), and he immediately jumped into his northbound trip up PCT. He took the time between trails to put together what he brought for the first leg of his journey, along with his thoughts behind each piece he chose to include. How much will change for each trail, and why? Stay tuned Quadzilla fans! There will be more to share as he covers the miles!
