Awesome tarp!
This is a great tarp and for the versatility of a shelter like this you can't beat the price! Its light enough for me to bring it even if im sharing a tent with my wife and versatile enough to use for a hammock tarp or a ground shelter. All the different tie out points make this a gem!
Still working after many years
I don't remember, but my 8x10 tarp must be close to 10 years old by now.
I used it in 2018 on the PCT in Southern California, then changed to a tent because of the mosquitos.
We used it one week in the Pyrenees this September 2021, with two people in Catabatic Bristlecone bivies underneath. It is still as good as new, just a little wrinkled. It does take what seems an insane amount of time to set up compared to a freestanding tent. My children would not believe you can stay dry under a tarp, but now they know. If it does not rain, then you can use one half as a ground sheet and wrap the other half around you to have a strange looking bivy. The tarp has the size of a house. I just love things of good quality that don't break as soon as the garantee expired.
My ideal shelter would be a freestanding double wall tent of up to 800g. Just so you (HMG) know. Happy hiking!
Looking forward to many more nights under this tarp
The materials and construction are super solid -- no concerns about cinching guylines nice and tight for a taut pitch -- and the design is thoughtful. On my most recent trip, I particularly appreciated the clip on the underside for suspending the bug net panel of my bivy sack. I find 8'6"x8'6" is a great size for me as a solo camper, but folks much taller than 6' might want the extra length of the 8'x10' version.
Only one thing would make this tarp even better out of the box, and that's reflective guylines. Easy enough to add after purchasing, but it'd be great if the tarp came with them.

Amazing strength and lightness
Replacement for previous HMG tarp
Used and loved your 8.5 x 8.5 flat-cut Dynema tarp as my only shelter on last 2100 miles of NOBO PCT thru hike (see Pensioner 2015 PCT at postholer.com). The extra length on this 10 x 8 “replacement” will be a big plus (at less than an additional ounce of weight) under the most extreme conditions of wind and rain encountered on that hike.
