UltaMid 4 – Ultralight Pyramid Tent
$999.00
The UltaMid 4 has the dimensions to accommodate a group of four, serve as a basecamp shelter, or provide protection for packrafting, alpine expedition, or bikepacking gear. When it comes to portable shelter, few designs have been as thoroughly time-tested and proven as those built in the pyramid-style. They’re easy to set up, efficiently spacious, and because of things like physics, incredibly capable of providing sanctuary in all but the most extreme weather.
While the remarkable 1.44 lbs. weight of the UltaMid 4 will be a welcome reduction to any kit’s overall mass, put any concerns to rest that it translates to a sacrifice in durability. The 100% waterproof Dyneema® Composite Fabrics used to build this elegant structure will outlast garden-variety silnylon materials many times over. The Ultamid 4 can be pitched high off the ground or tight to the ground. Set up with adjustable trekking poles or suspend from central peak.

I find HMG tents and backpacks to be worth every penny
I own UltaMid 2 and UltaMid 4 HMG tents. I believe HMG tents are the perfect combination of low weight, durability, and weather resistant (survivability). I also own the respective inserts with DCF floors which pair well with tents. Design for attachment of inserts to tents makes attaining bathtub shape for insert floor quite easy ... keeping groundwater out when it rains. Achieving bathtub shape for floors of other, non-HMG, tent inserts is not intuitive and takes some extra effort. I also like adjustability of optional HMG tent poles; since I'm not yet hooked on trekking poles.
Awesome tent!
Tent looks like its really high quality. All the stitching looks well done. Tent is super easy to set up. Ive set it up using the trekking poles and hung it off of my continuous ridgeline. Both methods were really easy and quick. Hanging it from the external loop gives an immense amount of room. Me, my wife, both of my dogs, and all of our gear with a little room left to spare.
Remarkably Light and Sturdy Tent
The tent was very easy to setup and seems very durable. I’ve only used it on one trip so far but it performed very well. Very excited to use it more. My wife and I are planning to use this tent as a light weight alternative to our VE 25.
Unworthy Tent for the Arctic
Just returned from a rainy trip to the Brooks Range.
Pros: lightweight, roomy, and solid bug protection.
Cons: questionable stability during wind events (even with properly placed/tensioned guy lines), mid zipper is not waterproof and leaks with rain, challenging set up in windy conditions, no vestibule.
Bottom line: this is a lightweight and roomy tent option that ultimately presented a safety hazard when faced with wind, rain, and snow in the Arctic. It will be used as a meal tent/group weather shelter in the future but not as our primary sleeping shelter option.
I can’t give it a 5 star yet…..
I live in Southeast Alaska rainforest! I have yet to test it in the brutal monsoons that we frequently get in the fall and spring but multiple summer camping trips with my lady and three dogs have been awesome! I’m not sure I could make it work in anything smaller than the ultimate 4!!!!
After a rain storm I’m sure I’ll be able to give it a 5 star.
