Our legendary four-season, two-person ultralight pyramid shelter.
THE PERFECT END TO ADVENTUROUS DAYS

When it comes to portable shelter, few designs have been as thoroughly time-tested and proven as those built in the pyramid-style. They’re easy to set up, efficiently spacious, and because of things like physics, incredibly capable of providing sanctuary in all but the most extreme weather.

While the remarkable 1.17 lbs. weight of the UltaMid 2 will be a welcome reduction to any kit’s overall mass, put any concerns to rest that it translates to a sacrifice in durability. The 100% waterproof Dyneema® Composite Fabrics used to build this elegant structure will outlast garden-variety silnylon materials many times over. Get cozy with the idea of unpacking the comfort and security of home, wherever home may be, for years to come. The UltaMid 2 can be pitched high off the ground or tight to the ground. Set up with adjustable trekking poles or suspend from central peak.

Expensive yes, but worth every penny.

I have used this tent now on a number of backpacking trips in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and most recently, Gates of the Arctic N.P. in Alaska. The tent performed flawlessly in all weather conditions thrown at it, including hail, snow and 30 mph winds. Very easy to set up and stake out for either full airflow or to lock down when the winds are howling.

I have the full insert with tub and love the ability to set up and take down even in inclement weather. This comes in handy on rainy mornings while others struggle with their tents and staying dry. The roominess of the tent for one person and full gear is a palace compared to conventional UL “2 person” tents.

I would definitely recommend the optional carbon fiber pole for setup in lieu of trekking poles if you plan to use as a basecamp though on longer expeditions.

Looking forward to many years of use with this winner!

Shoulder season in the high cascades

Light and bomber. Def a little on the bulky side but absolutely worth it and packs smaller the more I use it. Just used it for a week in the high cascades and it handled some serious wind and rain/sleet camped out about treeline. Love this thing.

Took a while to get the hang of pitching it well, but now I find it second nature. Practiced a bunch in the weeks leading up to my trip but obviously everything is differently when you're on the side of a mountain. No issues figuring out weird pitches on tough terrain once I was out there.

WOW

several rain days on my last section hike. Glad I had this. I was able to pack up "under a tarp". This was the envy of several hikers.

Finally a tent I don't hate!

Light, strong, easy to set up, versatile, and doesn't fill up my pack -- what's not to love? I've always had a love/hate relationship with tents, and I've gone through quite a few of 3 and 4 season options. Obviously tents are great because they keep you warm and dry in the mountains, but I've always hated how much space they take up in my pack and how much weight they add to my back. Bivy sacks kinda suck during a storm, and single wall models struggle with the moisture management issue.

Enter the UltaMid2. Even with the full insert (which I bought), it's weight-competitive with single wall tents. Both layers compress into a stuff sack smaller than the included sack for either layer, and it's laughably light. I've only had it out in the mountains for a couple nights now, but the fabric seems tough and likely to last for a long time. The translucent material lets natural light in, and the full insert provides plenty of room for two tall adults (6' and 5'10"). The only glaring omission is the lack of a vestibule, but I'll gladly put up with that inconvenience for the sake of a tent I don't want to cover in gasoline and start on fire.
