4400 Southwest
SKU: 3-10270-1
70L PACK, IDEAL FOR
- Dry, Rocky Environments
- Backpacking
If you’ve got a four-season trail habit, the 4400 Southwest has the volume needed for cold weather gear, food and fuel for a week, or additional travel tools like a packraft. Ideal for weekend, section, or thru hikes where resupply points are less frequent and/or bulkier equipment is required.
When the route is thick with vegetation, requires the occasional up and over immovable objects, and calls for “suck in your gut and shimmy through” type moves, the Southwest is the backpack you want up-close and personal. This pack family is made specifically for tough adventures that would rip most other ultralight-style packs to shreds.

Product Reviews and Questions
Love it
Exceed my expectations. Carries great.

Enough space for my bulky items
Does everything pack.
I took my southwest 4400 touring into a mountain hut. The pack handed all my gear. On day trip from the hut it held my avalanche gear in more of a day of pack size as you just roll down the top to the desired size. Waist belt pockets are awesome for snacks. My wife borrowed the pack and liked that she could find stump in the pack as the white version lets light in. Pack does force you to be organized as it only has one in/out. The outside pockets are great for when layers need to come off and you don’t want to access the main compartment.

5+ years & going strong
This pack has been around the globe with me on several occasions and countless backcountry expeditions. It has withstood the brute forces of nature and airport baggage handlers alike.
PROS:
- Extremely durable and lightweight. There's a reason they make sailing sheets out of Dyneema.
- The velcro, buckles, and pockets hold up remarkably and contain everything well. Cinches down effortlessly when not utilizing all of the available space.
- The "stuff sack" design is genius and despite the single point of entry it in fact makes gear organization and access a breeze.
CONS:
- Shoulder straps could be wider with more padding considering this backpack is capable of carrying extensive weight. The bag can handle the weight and if you need to pack your bag as such consider this point as it relates to the distance of transit. A few hours on the trail or walking through the city/airport? It'll be fine. Need to keep pace for several hours on a trail? Pack light.
- The metal drainage grommets at the base of the bag could be burlier. Mine have popped out over the years but can't say that it negatively affects the performance of the bag.
