3400 Southwest
Starting at $355.00
On rugged and tight trails, the 3400 Southwest is a flexible performer that can adapt and handle the way gear volumes change for weekend, section, or thru hikes. Ideal for weekend, section, or thru hikes where resupply points are less frequent and/or for equipment flexibility. When the extra volume is not in use, the 3400’s top can roll down enough to make the overall size of the pack similar to the 2400, but that additional space can come in pretty handy when you need it.
When the route is thick with vegetation, requires the occasional up and over immovable objects, and calls for “suck in your gut and shimmy through” type moves, the Southwest is the backpack you want up-close and personal. This pack family is made specifically for tough adventures that would rip most other ultralight-style packs to shreds.

Passing It Along
I just purchased this Southwest 3400 for my son, I’ve had my own for about three years now, and absolutely love it!! My son and I backpack every 2 to 3 months in the Carolina Mountains, 2 to 3 day trips. He’s had a granite gear crown 60, but has been eyeing my Southwest every trip, LOL. I just surprised him with his own Southwest 3400, we will be breaking it in next month on another backpacking trip in the Roan Highland Mountains, can’t wait.
A pack to get the hike done right - a through-hikers choice
Purchased the 3400 Southwest (Tall), meets the required size to weight requirements, will save on weight without losing the required volume of pack size.
Just used my new 3400
Just used my new 3400 SW, for the first time, on a two week thru of the Ozark Highland Trail. I really liked it, it felt good, very comfortable, gave me a wide range of adjustability and versatility, and of course, delightfully light weight.
I would suggest that you look at whether the straps that connect the rool down top closure could be re-located to a point between the large back pocket and the two side pockets. The present location of them, which is in front of the two side pockets, gets in the way of accessing the side pockets while wearing the pack. As in, when reaching for something in the side pockets, or even more, replacing something in the side pockets, like my water bottle or map, the straps got in the way of easy access.
But again of all a great product. I highly recommend!

Awesome packs
This is my third pack. First one still works great. Just some minor normal wear and tear. Anyway packs are amazing. Make wearing a pack really effortless. Would strongly recomend any hyperlite product.
Maybe the best pack ever made. . . certainly the best of 10+ that I own.
I have been an avid backpacker for the past 15 years. Most of my multi-day backpacks are from Osprey. I have always been a fan of lots of straps, pockets and lids. The more the merrier as this gives me tons of options for carrying gear. The downside to this is weight. While I am a true weight-weenie, I am not a minimalist. So my previous backpacks tended to be heavier as they provided great comfort. I love gear with multi-purpose functionality, quality construction and ultralight weight products. This is what drew me to the brand. I also own their pods, shoulder pocket, Repacks, stake kit, water bottle holder, stuff sack pillow and more. All of these products have exceptional quality.
What I love about the Southwest 3400 Black pack:
1. The black dyneema is a little heavier than the white dyneema and worth the small weight gain for the durability gain, to me.
2. The pack is fast, to operate. Compared to the Osprey with multiple buckles, lids and flaps, this pack is much faster to open. Two side buckles, top buckle, velcro and I am inside.
3. The hip pockets are very generous in size compared to Osprey. I can hold a lot more essential gear that I used to keep in the Osprey top pouch, which again makes me faster and requires less stops to grab gear. Left pocket: lip balm, hand cream, Deejo pocket knife, toiletries, snack. Right pocket: Sunglasses, OR foldable hat, Nitecore headlamp.
4. Accessories pockets are all huge! I can store a Nalgene and GSI microlite 500ml thermos…
